Japanese Strawberry Sando
Total Time: 35 minutes
Serves: 2
Ingredients
4 slices of soft white bread
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tbsp condensed milk or sugar (optional for sweetness)
10 strawberries (5 per sandwich)
Preparation
Carefully wash the strawberries and trim off the stems. Slice them into thin pieces to ensure each bite is balanced and to enhance the visual appeal when the sandwich is cut.
In a mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to whip the heavy cream. As soft peaks begin to form, add the optional condensed milk or sugar, and continue whipping until you achieve stiff peaks. This will ensure the cream holds its shape in the sandwich.
Generously spread the whipped cream on one side of each slice of bread. Aim for a thickness of about ½ inch to create a plush layer.
Arrange 5 sliced strawberries on the cream-covered slice in an even layer. This placement is crucial as it impacts how the sandwich looks when sliced.
Add an additional layer of whipped cream over the strawberries, carefully filling the gaps between them for a smooth finish.
Gently place another slice of bread on top and press down lightly to secure the fillings.
Wrap the sandwich tightly in cling wrap or place it on a plate and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes. This step helps the sandwich to set, making it easier to cut and handle.
Carefully remove the crusts for a clean, elegant look. Slice the sandwich in half or quarters to create bite-sized pieces.
Serve immediately for the best texture and freshness.
