Tip #1

Ensure Uniformity: Make sure the filling is evenly minced to ensure consistent cooking and texture in each lumpia.

Tip #2

Keep Wrappers Moist: Cover the lumpia wrappers with a damp cloth while working to keep them from drying out and cracking.

Tip #3

Prevent Oil from Overheating: Keep the oil temperature consistent to prevent the lumpias from burning on the outside while still raw inside. Use a cooking thermometer to monitor the oil’s temperature if available.

Lumpia - Filipino Spring Rolls

Total Time: 60 minutes

Servings: 20-25 lumpias

Ingredients

  • 500g ground pork

  • 1 cup carrots, minced

  • 1 cup celery, minced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp pepper

  • Lumpia wrappers (spring roll wrappers)

  • Cooking oil for frying

Preparation

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, minced carrots, celery, garlic, and onion. Add soy sauce, salt, and pepper to the mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  2. Lay a lumpia wrapper on a clean surface. Place about 2 tablespoons of the pork mixture along the bottom edge of the wrapper.

  3. Roll the wrapper tightly around the filling, folding in the edges to close the ends as you roll. Seal the end of the wrapper with a dab of water to keep it closed during frying.

  4. Heat cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. The oil should be deep enough to cover the lumpias.

  5. Once hot, fry the lumpias in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
